The story behind Fables World

From tears to A*: maths needed to feel different.

Fables World began with founder Rebecca's own daughter, Romy. She worked incredibly hard, but numbers did not make sense to her and, little by little, her confidence disappeared.

“I knew the problem wasn't Romy's intelligence. The problem was the way she was being taught.”

The problem was not Romy. It was the way she was being taught.

Rebecca was told that Romy would probably fail her maths exams. But rote memorisation, pressure and endless worksheets were making her more anxious, not helping her understand.

So Rebecca started again, using stories, funny characters, visual prompts, games, memory techniques and repetition without pressure. For the first time, Romy began to understand what the numbers meant instead of simply trying to memorise them.

Then everything changed

Maths stopped feeling frightening. The foundations clicked into place and Romy's confidence came back.

The Fables World difference

Understanding first. Confidence follows.

We turn abstract maths into something children can see, remember and enjoy revisiting.

01

Make it memorable

Characters and stories give numbers meaning, helping children recall the ideas long after a lesson ends.

02

Remove the pressure

Short games, visual prompts and gentle repetition replace stressful drills with purposeful practice.

03

Build real confidence

Children experience progress for themselves, so maths starts to feel possible rather than frightening.

One child became the proof

Romy went from struggling at the bottom of the class to thriving at the top.

She eventually achieved an A* in A Level Mathematics without expensive tutors or endless hours of stressful revision. That transformation became the foundation of Fables World: intelligent children are not “bad at maths”; sometimes they simply need to be taught in a way their brains can understand and retain.
